“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek may seemingly be the master of all known trivia as he stands behind his podium on the set of the long-running game show, but he doesn’t quite know it all.

Otherwise, he might have thought twice about scarfing down a bunch of brownies at a Malibu house party hosted by a friend in the ’70s. In a wide-ranging interview with The Daily Beast, Trebek recalls going all Maureen Dowd on a plate of brownies:
“It was by accident! I didn’t know what they were,” he tells me. “I had just arrived in California and went to a friend’s house for dinner, and there were brownies. I love brownies—I’m a chocoholic—and I didn’t realize that they were hash brownies. And… whoa. That threw me for a loop. I took down about a half-dozen.”
We all enjoy chocolate, sure, but a half-dozen brownies in one sitting is probably going to throw your stomach for a loop even without the cannabis infusion. Needless to say, the clue-calling Canadian needed a while to come down:
“The dinner party was on a Friday, and I was not able to leave that house until Sunday afternoon. I spent the next day and a half in bed. It was not a good trip, and I have not done any of that stuff since!
Come back to cannabis, Alex. You’ll be fine. Just maybe go a little lighter next time.
