Marshawn Lynch is proving he doesn’t need to be on an NFL roster to remain one the faces of the league.

With the start of the NFL season just a week away, the former star running back from Oakland is the focal point of a star-studded potato chip commercial that also features 49ers assistant coach Katie Sowers.

Those who truly believe Christmas arrives in September (when the NFL begins) can appreciate the theme of Frito-Lay’s new spot that will appear next during Thursday night’s season opener between the Chiefs and Texans on NBC-TV.

SANTA CLARA, CA – JANUARY 19: San Francisco 49ers offensive assistant Katie Sowers throws passes on the field before their NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 (Jose Carlos Fajardo/Bay Area News Group)

Lynch, dressed in a satin rob and sitting by a fireplace, does the narrating for the NFL rendition of ” ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The poem Lynch reads — ” ‘Twas the Night Before Kickoff” — includes cameos of Sowers, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Romo, all of whom are dressed in pajamas featuring their favorite teams.

Lynch provided a sneak peek of the commercial on his Instagram account on Thursday. You can see it here.

Sowers, a pioneering female coach who became the first openly gay person to participate in a Super Bowl, was a focal point of a Microsoft commercial during last year’s 49ers’ loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The 49ers’ offensive assistant’s latest commercial appearance is punctuated by Lynch’s reading, “When up in her room arose such a clatter, as Katie prepared for a defense to shatter!”

The commercial closes with Lynch imploring everyone to get into “Eat Mode”: “Now snack away, snack away, snack away all.”
